Breathing City
This is an ongoing series shot on 35mm film, documenting the summer nightscapes of a small inland city in central China. The images captures ordinary yet intimate moments: families dining under streetlights, children playing near neon-lit carousels, vendors resting beside mobile stalls, and barbers cutting hair in glass storefronts.
As daylight fades, the city seems to breathe more vividly. Its residents stepping out into public spaces that feel both shared and personal. Through the grain and texture of film, these quiet scenes of coexistence and contrast reveal how people inhabit urban space in spontaneous, adaptive ways. The photographs are less about spectacle and more about presence: how light, architecture, and gesture form ephemeral connections between strangers, environments, and the night.
